How do location cues and directions work?
Hidden Layers can use your location for gentle chapter cues and optional directions between chapters. You stay in control. Listen manually at your own pace, or turn location help on when it makes a travel day easier.
How do I download episodes for offline use?
Navigate to any destination in the Explore tab, then tap the download button (cloud icon) in the header to download all episodes for that destination. You can also add episodes to your Trip and download the entire trip at once. Downloaded episodes appear in your Library under "Downloads."
What is the Before You Go briefing?
Every destination includes a free Before You Go briefing episode. It gives you the practical and narrative context before you arrive, so the premium chapters make more sense once you're on the ground.
Can I use Hidden Layers without an internet connection?
Yes. Download your destination before your trip and your audio will be available offline. We recommend downloading over Wi‑Fi before you travel.
How do I restore my purchases on a new device?
Go to Settings in the app and tap "Restore Purchases." Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID or Google account you used for the original purchase.
How do I cancel my subscription?
The annual subscription is managed through your device's app store:
- iOS: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions
- Android: Google Play → Menu → Subscriptions
What if I buy individual tours and then upgrade to annual?
We don't offer automatic prorated credits right now. If you upgrade to annual within 14 days of buying individual tours, contact support and we can manually review recent individual tour purchases for a possible refund.
The audio isn't playing. What should I do?
Try these steps:
- Check that your device isn't on silent/mute
- Ensure you have an internet connection (or the episode is downloaded)
- Close and reopen the app
- Check if the episode requires a Pro subscription

How accurate is the historical information?
We research our content thoroughly and cite mainstream archaeological and historical sources. For more speculative topics (ancient astronomy, alternative theories), we clearly distinguish between established facts and interpretations. Our goal is to inspire curiosity, not replace academic research.
